Discover The Adventure of the Western 4-H Camp! LOCATION:
YOUTH CAMPS, Not just for 4-H members!
Programs are designed to develop skills for safe and healthful living, enhance personal development and provide constructive uses of leisure time. We are committed to providing a safe environment where children can make new friends and develop new skills while enjoying the beauty of the cottonwoods along the Missouri river. The camp provides well-designed areas for horseback riding, canoeing, outdoor skills, hiking trails and more. Facilities include a main lodge for dining and group activities, three sleeping cabins housing 30 guests with each having its own bathroom and shower facilities, areas for livestock and horsmanship training. Our staff members are trained in nature, crafts, recreation, first aid, human development and working with youth to ensure a quality experience for campers. Specialized experts are brought in for each camp. The Western 4-H Camp is where kids can have fun discovering themselves and their surroundings.
Camps are open to all youth, ages 5-18. Please check the age requirements of all camps before registering your child. Unless otherwise noted, all camps begin at 4:00 p.m. (CST) and end at 11:00 a.m. (CST) Camper scholarships are available for early registration. 4-H Camp employs a camp cook and counselors. In addition, the youth camps are facilitated by various local county Extension agents and volunteers. All camp staff, Extension staff and volunteers are required to pass a Youth Protection background check. The camp maintains a ratio of one counselor/chaperone to ten campers, as outlined by the American Camping Association. FACILITIES:
The main lodge can be utilized for meetings, a gathering spot for campers, family reunions, receptions, educational training, etc. The main lodge is home to the dining facilities for the camp. It can seat approximately 200 people when tables are arranged cafeteria-style or provide for an empty gathering space conducive to a variety of functions. The main lodge is home to a commercial kitchen available for user groups. This kitchen is equiped for large-scale food preparation. The availability of an outdoor barbeque pit and campfire ring offer the true life experience of outdoor cooking, mealtime and relaxation. An outdoor riding arena is nestled in the trees away from the camp's living and eating facilities. This area is available for livestock shows, training, rodeos, stampedes, etc. The serene setting of the amphitheatre-style outdoor chapel allows users the opportunity to host religious/prayer services, weddings, or artistic & dramatic presentations. The grounds at the camp provide the opportunity for hiking, canoeing, sports camps, fishing, tenting, cultural celebrations, rendezvous, shooting sports, camping, training and retreats as possibilities for space utilization. The cost of operating the camp is funded by contributions, grants and camp fees. |
